In the book ‘Finding the Mother Tree’ (2021) forestry researcher and conservationist Susan Simard reveals how trees communicate and cooperate with each and challenging our understanding of the interdependency of life forms. The tree is an occurring motif in the work of Lucy + Jorge Orta referring to the nurturing networks and relationship between trees and other plant species. Larger-than-life blossoms, textile records of species found in the artists’ photographic archive, burst with life from the branches, serving as a reminder of the diversity and fragility of our natural world.
