Commissioned by the Diocese of Évry-Corbeil-Essonnes, in the south of Paris, the Light Work Crossroads was created to inaugurate Evry Cathedral, designed by Swiss architect Mario Botta. Jorge Orta conducted extensive historical research on the cross, an ecumenical symbol bridging cultures and religions. Using the cathedral as a light beacon, and the public space as a stage, Orta created twenty-two light compositions on the façade of the cathedral, which were accompanied by an original sound-scape, drawing thousands of spectators from all walks of life, to the centre of the city.
